Meeting between the President of the BoA of the EUIPO and the Chairman of Sakpatenti

On 18 February 2020, the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) brought together the President of the Boards of Appeal (BoA) of the EUIPO, Mr Théophile Margellos, and the Chairman of Sakpatenti, Mr Mindia Davitadze. They discussed upcoming priorities for the project Annual Work Plan (AWP 2021).


Development of the OAPI trade mark and designs examination guidelines

AfrIPI is supporting the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) with the drafting of guidelines based on the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) guidelines and EU common practices. The aim is to enhance the quality, consistency and transparency of the work undertaken by the OAPI member states’ IP Offices with regard to the examination of trade mark and design applications, through the drafting of guidelines.


AfrIPI feeding the GI Hub

AfrIPI is planning to continuously feed the Hub with additional GIs, based on selection criteria to be agreed with the Consultative Committee for the Continental Strategy for Geographical Indications in Africa. Also, further functionalities shall be gradually integrated in the GI Hub.


A new African GI manual coming soon

The Consultative Committee for the Continental Strategy for Geographical Indications in Africa set out an action plan for 2020, reaffirming their commitment to the development of GIs in Africa. The development of a GI manual is an important step in the promotion of this strategy.


Integration and implementation of IP tools

The activity aims to create awareness on the available IP tools and prepare the countries involved to integrate relevant EUIPN tools into their software. This integration process also includes the sharing of knowledge and experiences as well as technical hands-on sessions.


Development of the Egyptian Trade mark and Industrial Designs Guidelines
